Near Chartham Hatch, Kent – 5/10

Barbed wire (along with aggressive cows and less than accommodating farmers) is one of the greatest dangers that walkers face when trying to navigate the footpaths of Great Britain, and the stile provides the necessary safe guarding. Thankfully here the barbed wire is responsibly wrapped up, reducing the risk of wounding and tetanus infection. However, the stile itself only contains the one step (which is itself wonky), and as much as the improvisation of tying it to a metal pole is to be applauded, it detracts from the visual appeal. This stile just about serves its primary function, but is otherwise a very modest effort.
